Question from Tanya:
I am getting married in June of next yr and I want to ride a horse down the aisle. I do not own a horse so I am having difficulty finding where I borrow one or rent one so on and so on could you help me with this?
Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:
Hi Tanya. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Riding a horse down the aisle is a new one on me. I have never seen or heard of anyone doing that. I have seen horse drawn carriages bringing the bride and groom to the church, and to the reception, but I’ve never heard of riding a horse down the aisle. Your wedding will be the talk of the town! Definitely unique!
You don’t say where you live, so I would suggest that you go to the yellow pages of your phone book, and call the riding stables. I assume you are a rider of horses, so wherever it is you usually ride would be a good place to start. Are you aware that you may smell like horse after riding it down the aisle in your wedding gown? I’m not an avid rider, but have gone riding many times, and always come home smelling like horse and needing to wash all my clothes. You may want to consider that.
You will also need permission of the place you are having your wedding to allow a horse indoors—unless it is an outdoor wedding. There may be health regulations to consider, as well as the logistics of where does the horse go after it takes you up the aisle. I’m having a hard time imagining a horse in a church! But, you don’t say where you are having your wedding. What if the horse does it’s business on the aisle of the church?!? My mind boggles at the thought—how would you walk back out of the church through that?!? Then the clean up costs…..maybe even replacement of the aisle runner….definitely things to look into.
My suggestions are: call the riding stables in your area, or talk to the people where you usually ride. Depending on where your ceremony will be held, check to see if they will allow you to have a horse, and if there are any government regulations to having an animals in that facility (if food is being prepared and served nearby, you might have health regulations to deal with).
Good luck, and please let me know how it turns out. I am really interested, as I’ve never heard of anyone ever doing this. Enjoy!
