Question from Denise:
Hello. I am having a cinderella wedding. The reason why is because of how my finance and I met. We were at a studio for ballroom dancing where you learn different styles of ballroom dancing and salsa, merenga, etc.
Anyway during the course of the evening, the heel to my shoe broke and I was there, one shoe on and one shoe off trying to fix it, when my finance approached me and asked me if he could fix it for me. Well, he fixed my shoe and gave it back to me to put back on my foot – funny thing it has never broken off since (it’s been now 2.5yrs). I was wearing a red dress and black shoes that evening.
We are getting married July 11, 2009 and I’m struggling with colours. Would you see this as a fairytale type of wedding (which I would like to use pastel pink) or do you see this as a regal/monarchy type of wedding where I may use gold. I’ve been told using cinderella theme you can go either way.
If you see this as more of a fairytale then what would go with pastel pink keeping with the theme and why I’ve chosen it. I do not want to put the men
in pastel vests as I think it will be too pink. The other colours you think may go well, I would put them in that colour. I was actually thinking maybe
gold or silver. Please help me – thank you.
Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:
Hi Denise. Your choice to go fairytale vs regal/monarchy is up to you. I suggest you watch the movie Cinderella (any version) for ideas. Look at the colours they use. Do you like them enough to copy them? Watch more than one of the Cinderella movies. What colours do you really like best?
Pink is a very hot colour right now. I caution you to watch out that you don’t go too "little girl pink" in your choice of pink, unless that is your choice. The pinks in style now are more sophisticated and adult. Check out some of the bridal magazines for the "in" pinks, or google bridal or wedding gowns to see samples.
Take a look at the Fairytale Dreams theme, or the Pure Elegance theme. Have you considered the Flower of Love collection? You say that you were wearing a red dress when you first met your fiance. Have you considered red for the bridemaids? It is a very popular colour for both bridesmaids and bridal gowns. Yes, red wedding gowns!
The Classic Double Heart theme collection has beautiful items with silver trimmings. Silver and pink go really well together also, and look quite elegant. Bridesmaids with pink dresses and silver trimmings, the fellows in silver shirts with pink trimmings. That would look quite lovely.
For more ideas, check out the Fairytale Theme and Snow White Theme blogs.
In the end it is up to you. Watch the Cinderella movies. Pick what you love, and don’t worry about what is "proper". Putting colours together so that it works is all that is required to make things beautiful. Enjoy!
