How Do I Word An Invitation For A Workplace Wedding Celebration? – Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Janet:

Hi.  My boss is getting married for the second time, and I’d like to plan a department get-together a few days before he departs for his wedding and honeymoon (to which very few of our co-workers are invited, due to distance).  Could you provide me with wording for an invitation to our co-workers?  I’d like the event to be a celebration, as opposed to a shower, at the end of the workday with hors’ douevers (sp?), champagne and cake.  Because this is a work event, I’d like to keep it to our co-workers (and not include his fiancee).  Any suggested wording for an invitation (which I will make myself) would be appreciated.  Thank you very much.

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

Hi Janet.  What a lovely gesture to throw a party for your boss!  I would check with his superior to ensure that this is acceptable, and I would make sure to include the fact that you will be serving hors’douevers, champagne and cake.  You don’t want to get into trouble because there is alcohol in the workplace, or some other workplace rule is being broken.  If you get the go-ahead from above, you can word the invitation in many ways.

My suggestion is:

Come and join us for a Champagne Party celebrating "person’s name" upcoming marriage on date, time, place.  OR

Join the  "department name" in celebrating "person’s name" upcoming wedding with a small gathering on date, time, place.

I’m sure you can space it appropriately with his name in a larger font.  Make sure the person you are checking with for approval of the partry, also approves of the invitation wording.  I would put the beginning and end time for this party, so people know what other arrangement they might have to make with spouses to pick up kids, or a new time for their ride home, etc.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
