Question from Niki:
Hi! I am having a fall wedding and I would like the main colour theme to be burgundy, I also like a deep burnt oranges and reds as well and I would like to know what colour goes best with burgundy?
Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:
Hi Niki, and congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Burgundy is a very appropriate colour for a fall wedding. If you like the tonal or monochromatic look, various shades of burgundy would be the way to go. If you like harmonious colours, moving to either side of burgundy on the colour wheel (like purples, or reds) would be appropriate. Complementary colours are across each other on the colour wheel and would include yellowy greens. Triadic colours (three colours on the colour wheel that are an equal distance from one another) would be a stronger statement like burgundy, blues and oranges.
You seem to like the harmonious colours, and both the deep burnt oranges and reds would work well. The important thing to ensure is that the colour tones (the underlying colour) all match. Cream and burgundy look very beautiful together, and works well with oranges or reds. Brown also works well with burgundy, as long as it has a red undertone to it.
There is no one best colour to go with burgundy. I would suggest you get colour samples (ribbon, or fabric swatches) and put them together to see how you like the combination. If you are looking at purchasing bridesmaid dresses or renting tableclothes, etc., it is important to know what colours are available. It’s one thing to choose your colours, but if you can’t find the products to match, you will have to rethink your colour scheme.
I think your colour choices so far are excellent, so as a next step, I would find out what wedding decorations you have available to you in those colours. That will help you make your final decision.
