What Is The Formal Wedding Attire For Church and Reception? – Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Dolores:

Hi there.. I am attending a very fancy wedding in New Jersey… the church ceremony @ 5pm..and reception @ 7pm..  Is it okay to wear my cocktail dress to the church ? or should I have a more church appropriate attire? and then change prior to the reception. ?  Thanks for the advice.

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

Hi Dolores.  I am assuming by "a very fancy wedding" you mean a formal wedding.  If this is the case, yes, appropriate church attire and appropriate reception attire is the proper thing.  You may have a cocktail dress that you can "formalize" for church with a nice blazer or alternative accessories (scarf, etc.) to make it more appropriate for church.

Church attire should be modest, whereas a cocktail dress is perfect for the wedding reception. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
