How Do I Decorate an Opera House? –Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Laurie:

Hello, I am getting married in a old opera house in January 2010 and need some ideas on how to decorate with lights. The stage is big and a metal arch is
not my thing.  My colors are red and silver.  Any ideas that you have or pictures would be great.  Thanks so much.

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

Hi Laurie, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding.  An opera house sounds like a lovely grand place to get married in.  The challenge is to create a warm environment  in such a large area.  You are right—-it is about decorating with lighting.  Having the ceiling dark, and the lights coming from front, back, and bottom is the key.  Uplights are inexpensive and can accent any focal points you have in your decor.  It  will draw the eye, and create visual drama.  I don’t know if there is lighting in the opera house that you can use, but I would investigate that option quite thoroughly.  Theatrical places tend to have the necessary lighting, so I would check that first.

Your metal archway can be disguised with sinamay mesh or tulle, and entwined with light garlands.  You can find these wedding decorations here.  This will create a lovely look  as well as creating a nice lighting effect.

If you get really stuck in how to decorate I suggest you hire a wedding planner or an interior designer for a few hours to get some advice.  I always recommend hiring an expert for the answers you need, and for a few hours it will not be expensive.

If you have futher questions, feel free to put them below, and I will respond.  Good luck!
