Who Wears Wedding Corsages and Why? – Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Cindy:

Is there a set rule on who gets to wear a corsage, mother of the bride & mother of the groom etc. who else may wear corsages at the wedding.  And Info
as to why corsages are worn by certain people.  With Kind Regards

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

Hi Cindy and congratulations on your upcoming wedding.  The use of wedding corsages started with the ancient Greeks who used the strong fragrances of herbs and flowers to ward of evil spirits.  Traditionally, the bridal party and the mother’s of the bride and groom wore the corsages.  With father’s taking a greater part in their children’s lives in our modern times, the father of the bride and groom also get boutonnieres.

The use of corsages today help to identify the bridal party, the parents and grandparents of the bride and groom, so the guests can identify the family members.  Today, these are the ones who usually get a corsage or boutonniere.

You have the choice of a lapel corsage, a handbag corsage and a wrist corsage.  A lapel corsage goes on the person’s lapel, but often, because of the weight of the fabric, the choice might be to have a wrist corsage instead.  A handbag corsage is a corsage that is attached to the front of a handbag.
