How We Ask For Gifts Of Money For Our Wedding? – Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Cherie:

My finace and I are getting married in July and we are sending out the invitations this week, we were wondering how we can tactfully put it that we would prefer cash gifts as opposed to actual gifts because we have everything we need?  Thank you in advance for your input.

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

Asking for money is bad form, and poor etiquette.  If your guests want to know what to get you, they will ask your family or bridal party, who can then tell them that you prefer a cash gift.  But you never communicate that in writing.  Just like the thank you note for a cash gift never mentions it—-it just refers to the "kindness" or "generosity" of the giver.
