How Do We Ask For Cash For Our Wedding? – Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Chantel:

Hello,  We have an insert in my our wedding invitation to put the registry info on it and don’t know how to word it.  We are going to have a wishing well poem
asking for money cause we have everything as we have already been living together we now need the money to finnish our basement.  We would also like
to put something on that card with the poem stating that ppl that don’t like to give money can give gift certificates for home depot for wood and nails and tools. I am pretty sure they don’t do registries there here in Alberta so we have no other choice. Can somebody PLEASE help?

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

It is not appropriate to tell your guests to give you money as a gift.  It is not appropriate to put a bridal registry list into your invitations.  If you want your guests to know what you want, you tell your immediate family and bridal party, and IF YOUR GUESTS ASK, they are then informed of your preference.

This 3 minute video on the etiquette of wedding gifts and bridal registries will give you the proper way to handle this.

If you have further questions, please feel free to ask.
