Who Should Wear Corsages and Boutonnieres? – Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Lori:

Hello, My brother, sisters and I will be hosting a 50th wedding anniversary party for our parents in May.  What is the "rule" regarding corsages/boutonnieres
at such an event?  Should we, as their children wear them?  Should their sisters/brothers wear them?  And what about grandchildren?  Thanks for any information you have on this subject.

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

Hi Lori.  The "rules" for wedding anniversaries follow the same "rules" as weddings.

Corsages ad boutonnieres are worn by the immediate family.  It identifies the immediate family to the rest of the guests.  Yes, your parents brothers and sisters should wear them, and so should you as their children.  Technically, the grandchildren should also have them, although if you have a huge family you might opt to not have the grandchildren wear them—especially if cost is an issue.  But really, they should wear them so guests can identify the family members.  That is the purpose of wearing the corsages and boutonnieres.

This great, short video on wedding flowers talks about corsages and boutonnieres and you might find it helpful.
