Question from Brenda:
We are having a difference of opinion about wedding invitation wording. If the wedding is an evening wedding and we are only having cake at the reception–what is the proper wording?
Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:
Hi Brenda, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Here are the etiquette rules surrounding meal vs no meal receptions.
People expect meals if you have your reception between 9 am and 11 am (breakfast); 11 am and 2 pm (lunch); 10am and 3 pm (brunch); 6 pm to 9 pm (dinner). Non-meal receptions typically are between 3 pm and 5 pm (tea); 5 pm and 7 pm (cocktails); 9 pm and midnight (dessert).
I am assuming you are having something more than just cake at your wedding reception—-drinks of some type. Depending upon what that will be, your options for the invitation are: Please join us for (pick one): champagne and cake, cocktails and cake, cake and coffee, or light refreshments.
