Make The Whole Family Feel Included

My fiancé’s family is Jewish and my family is Presbyterian so when we decided to get married we thought that we would have a tough time making both sides of the family feel like their traditions and beliefs were upheld. This posed to be a tough decision whether the wedding should be held in a Church or a Synagogue as well as deciding what vows should be said.

Levi and I compromised by planning to have our wedding outside in a field instead of choosing a Church or a Synagogue. Also, even though we decided to choose a pastor to perform the wedding, we still will incorporate Jewish tradition as well by saying some Jewish vows. We’re planning that the food at the reception will be kosher and that we all will dance to the Hava Nagila.

Being in an inter-faith/inter-cultural/inter-racial relationship does have its difficulties when it comes to family affairs. But when both families’ beliefs can be respected and cherished, then neither side should have a problem of celebrating your love. In my own experience, love between two people breaks barriers and prejudices.
