Wedding favours and bridal accessories in Dryden, Ontario, Canada

Dryden is the second largest city in the District of Kenora of northwestern Ontario, Canada and is located on Wabigoon Lake. To date, it is the smallest community in the entire province of Ontario to be designated as a city with a mere population of just 8,195 as of 2006 Canada census and a population density recorded at 125.7 square kilometers. In addition, it is also one of the only two cities in Ontario that is located in the Central Standard Time Zone with the other city being Kenora. Its eastern boundary is located near Aaron Provincial Park on Thunder Lake.

The area of Dryden was actually a part of the Ojibwe nation that covered an intensive area from Lake Huron in the east to Lake of the Woods and beyond and is disputed by Cree from the north and Sioux from the south. This nation was a nomadic culture that formed groups (the sizes of these groups range from a single family to the size of an entire village) for moving over the land with the passing of seasons and the availability of necessities to meet the requirements of life in such a way that no lasting or permanent settlements were made. It was believed that the surrounding of Bending Lake (located in the triangle between Dryden, Ignace and Atikokan) and Turtle River was a meeting place for the aboriginals that came from as far as southern US as well as central Canada for trade and cultural exchange. To this day, the evidence of ancient occupancy is still available there in the form of pictographs, artefacts and burial grounds and may even be considered as the town’s prehistoric centre.

In the year 1895, the place was founded as an agricultural community by John Dryden who was Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture at that time. He decided to start an experimental farm the following year after he noticed clovers growing at the side of the train tracks when the train he was traveling in stopped at what was known as Barclay Tank then to re-water. The successful cultivation of the farm brought settlers from the Uxbridge area of southern Ontario and Bruce Peninsula. The community later came to be known as New Prospect. In 1910, the place became a town and 78 years later in 1998, it achieved its city status after having merged with the neighboring township of Barclay.

Today, people passing the city of Dryden usually relates to it as the home of ‘Max the Moose’. Max is the city mascot that stands at 5.6 meters high on the Trans-Canada Highway. Every year, the city will hold a festival called the Moosefest Festival for everyone to participate and enjoy themselves. During the festival itself, a fishing tournament as well as the Walleye Masters will be held for those who are keen to take part and have a shot at winning.
