COLOR? ? MyDreamWedding.ca “Ask The Expert” Answer

Question from Diane

HELP! I’M HAVING ONLY A MATRON OF HONOR AND A FLOWER GIRL FOR MY AUGUST WEDDING. MY MATRON OF HONOR HAS CHOSEN A PERSSIMON GOWN, WHAT COLORS SHOULD I USE WITH THIS? I DON’T WANT A FALL LOOKING RECEPTION

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela

Hi Diane,

Well, you are the bride, and YOU choose the colours!  But if you want her to have persimmon (bright orange), you can go with a variety of colours in the same tonal group (bright blue, bright green, bright yellow, bright pink, etc).  If the orange is just too much, you need to tell her that she needs a different colour, or at the least, a different tone of that colour.  How about a pale melon instead of a bright orange?

The nice thing about summer, is that there are many colours that you could use.  Usually weddings have a one-colour colour scheme.  But that is not a necessity.  You can choose to have a variety of colours in your wedding planning.

The flower girl can have a completely different colour dress.  Your decorations can again be a different colour from either dress.  Be creative and make it unique.  Your flowers could have all those colours, just to tie them together.

This summer’s colours are yellow, orange, blue, green and pink.  Look around you in nature and see how orange fits in and what looks good along side of it.  That is how designers often choose a colour scheme—from nature, from a painting, or from a fabric.

Visit a fabric store to see what colours are put together with persimmon.  Take a look at those colours and see what YOU like.

The important thing here is that this is your wedding, and the colour choice is yours!  Summer allows a multitude of beautiful colours.  Mix and match them.  When decorating, you just need to have something that ties the various colors together.  You can use table decorations, ribbon, flowers or other things to keep the theme multi-coloured, beautiful and festive.

But remember.  Your wedding.  Your colour choice.  This is your day. You need to be clear about what you want, or other will choose for you.

Good luck, and if you have any more questions, feel free to email.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.
