How Do We Ask For Gift Vouchers In The Invitation? – Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Andrew:

Hello.  We want to send out some party invites for the evening do, but we would like to specify gift vouchers for a certain shop, rather than random gifts.  How do we phrase that in the card?

Many thanks,

Andrew

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

Hi Andrew.

It is not acceptable etiquette to ask for gifts, and definitely inappropriate to ask for gift vouchers.

Gifts are something freely given (or not) by your guests.  The only time I have ever seen any mention of gifts is in bridal shower invitations where the gift registry used by the couple is mentioned, and even this is poor etiquette.  Proper etiquette is that the family and bridal party know which gift registry(s) the couple has used, and will tell guest this information WHEN ASKED.

The link to this post will give more information on wedding gift etiquette.

I hope this is helpful.
