Medieval Theme Weddings Capture Imagination

medieval5.jpgThere are many important considerations you need to think about if you are planning any sort of  medieval theme weddings.  Location, dress, wedding accouterments and how you will treat your vows are some of the most important considerations.  Once you have those worked out however, you have prescribed a day that will be fun, romantic and classic.

Just about every bride-to-be has entertained a fantasy of being a fair damsel swept away by a knight in shining armor or a prince.  Every man has fantasized about being a prince, king or knight in shining armour. The type of medieval hero that saves the girl of his dreams with a combination of cunning, dash and courage.  Much of this is what makes super-hero cartoons and action movies so popular for young and old, regardless of gender.

Medieval theme weddings play to the fantasies of both genders.  They allow you and your spouse-to-be to indulge in a magical day that matches each person’s perspective.  Although the roles might be very different, the core theme at the middle of all of this is the same.

The toughest challenge for medieval theme weddings is finding the right location.  Where, for instance, do you find a castle to hold the ceremony and/or reception?  Luckily, castles are not as scarce as they seem.  Virtually every city and most areas in general have something that resembles a castle and just about every area has a theme related restaurant, resort or meeting hall that resembles or is a castle, even if the walls are not stone and centuries old.  If no castle-like building is available, you can always “dress up” your ceremony and reception locations with medieval props to give the impression of a medieval setting.

medieval2.jpg Another suggestion is to utilize an outdoor setting.  The outdoors plays a huge role in almost all medieval stories.  Often the woods or scenic views framed the setting for budding romance, love affairs and coupling.  Using the outdoors will allow you to create the theme (with appropriate decorations) but not have to worry about a period accurate setting or building.

Dress is also very important.  While you want your day to be classy and elegant, you will have to decide if you want to dress like royalty, peasants or landowners.  Finding appropriate attire will require a bit of searching, either in higher end costume shops or on the Internet.  One good idea is to look for a Renaissance Fair near you and visit that to get ideas and to buy period costumes.

Finally, medieval theme weddings need to have accurate and period favors, collections and other articles.  One suggestion is to give your guests Golden Lac Boxes with Beads and Mirror or to utilize a Fairy Tale Dreams Collection.  You also could decorate your ceremony and reception using specialty sinamay mesh rolls.

Finally, there is the issue of food.  You want to feed your guests like royalty rather than serve them gruel or rotten meat the way some peasants had to do to survive.  To that end, your meals should be heavy on meats such as turkey, venison or mutton.  Any vegetables should be seasonal such as greens in summer or squash in the fall.  You also should consider bread dishes and deserts that are true to a medieval theme, such as cakes, puddings and sugar cookies.

Medieval theme weddings allow both the bride and groom to celebrate their special day with an added flavor of indulging what for most people was a childhood fantasy.  Every Bride has imagined she was a princess and every groom has cast himself as the hero in an array of battles, wars and conflicts, both always getting exactly what they want in the opposite sex.  Medieval weddings are the adult version of that fantasy and set the stage for a truly magical day.
