Do I Pay For My Guest’s Wedding Travel Expenses? Ask The Expert Answer

Question from Eloisa:

I was thinking of Guests who live in another State. Thinking about my budget and I hope I don’t sound cheap but would I need to supply them with Transportation (like renting them a car) and take care of their hotel rooms? or Should I offer to pay for half of their Transportation and hotel rooms? Or Do they need to take care of it themselves?

These questions are more for the Guests who don’t have family or friends to stay with when they come. Should I offer to send them rent a car companies and hotel information that can be affordable to them? Should I pay their airplane tickets? The tickets would include their children? It looks like I gave you a lot of questions in one message.

Answer from Bridal Expert Angela:

When you invite people to an event, it is up to them to pay for any expenses to get to the event. If they ask, you can send them car rental information or hotel information. If you are having your event at a hotel, you can arrange for a discounted room rate with the hotel for your guests. This is a very common practice, and can be easily arranged. When your guests make reservations they would have to tell the reservation clerk what group they are part of, and the discount would be applied.

Depending upon where your guests are staying, and where the party will be held, you might arrange with family members to give them a ride to and from the event.

If you have enough people flying from a specific city, airlines will often give group discount rates which you would need to arrange.

If you can afford to purchase everyone a ticket to your event, and you choose to do this, it would be a very nice gesture. But most people cannot afford to do this, and paying part of something is not done. Arranging things like transportation, or discounted meals for the group while they are attending your event would be a more appropriate way to help them ease the financial burden.

I hope that answers your questions. Feel free to email again with any other questions you may have.
