Weddings in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada

There is this sweet laid back suburban town hidden in the corners of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Look under “A” in your travel guide and you are bound to find Ancaster on it. Once one of the three original defence positions, it ended up being too close to the American border and so it turned towards the agriculture sector where the pioneers cleared the land for farms and mills to take place.

There is this legendary gristmill that stood for a century. It was repeatedly pulled down and rebuilt to one extent when they got so tired of it and left it there for good. Due to its so called resilience, it is now known as the Ancaster Old Mill which is now rather famous among the locals. Not only does it operates as a restaurant, it is also everyone’s favourite banquet hall as the community gathers together to commemorate the wedding of their beloved family and friends.

The history of this place makes the whole experience one of a kind. Apart from this, the Barracks of 1812 still stands on Wilson Street. It serves as a reminder between the war between the British and the Americans at that period. There are still some fine Victorian architecture left. One that stands out is the Richardson residence, which is known as The Spa of Ancaster now. It was built in 1972 as a wedding present for Dr Henry Richardson. Fancy a ghost ride?

Ancaster does not need expensive equipments to do that. The hermitage located there has been changed ownership for numerous times before it has burned down in 1934. Ever since then, there were whispers and rumours surrounding the empty shell and its nearby buildings that it was haunted. If you head down to Ancaster now, there are ghost rides throughout the year that is guaranteed to send chills down your spine.

However, this town is not all about historical site. Every year, without fail, Ancaster will have an annual fair in the month of September. It was originally meant for the residents but as the years progress, more and more people make its way down to the town just for this event. There are baby shows, cattle shows, horse shows and of course, plants exhibits where the community will show off their very own home grown field crops, vegetables and fruits. For the kids, Friday Kids Day is not to be missed. Exciting games and prizes are made ready for those who are eager to plunge headfirst into the event.

There is the classic eating competition, animal shows and of course, bumpy rides which will definitely put a smile on their faces. When you make a trip to Canada, Ancaster is worth a visit. Where else can you get a clean old school fun from all the hustle and bustle of the usual metropolitan life? Take a deep breath and enjoy the warmth and cosiness of this community.
