Even if you were not aware of it, you had probably seen tulle being used in some weddings or other. Tulle is the fine, wiry fabric that is most often used as a veil, simply because it is solid enough to hold its own shape but is of sheer material and gives a soft look to the overall appearance. It can be made from several different fibers, namely silk, nylon and rayon. While it may not exactly be the most romantic thing to hold, when used as part of the bridal garb, it gives the whole apparel a fairy tale-like feel.
Due to its lightweight texture, tulle is very popularly used in weddings. This is especially as it can be used as a decorative resource and not just as part of the bridal outfit. Used in various ways, it enhances the magic of the moment. For a more contemporary look, do not confine yourself to white-colored tulle – these days it is not too uncommon to see the colors maroon, purple, pink, blue or even black used in weddings.
One of the reasons why tulle is so frequently used is that it is not too extravagant a décor to have at your wedding. The material can be bought in bulk (and even then is sold in spools that go by the yards) and is sold at most textiles stores – even those not specializing in bridal wear. These days, you can even have your choice of glitter or non-glitter tulle.
On the bride, gathered tulle can be used on gloves, skirts, sleeves or bouquet holder. Its light fabric, which can be dyed in subtle hues, adds a little bit of colour onto a pristine white gown. Just adding a few layers on to your bodice-hugging gown and you will add on more body to the dress as a whole. If you are not exceptionally fond of the slightly “poufy” look, then use tulle as your train. It will add the “walking-on-clouds” sensation and help make your sashay down the aisle even smoother.
One of the most common ways of using tulle wedding decorations is as a flower stand cover. If you are planning to line your aisle, lawn or walls with flowered plants, soften the look of the conventional stand with layers of tulle bound together with a ribbon tied into a bow. Likewise, you can decorate the main wedding table with draping tulle on the front, layering it so it falls in soft folds. To highlight the effort, place little Christmas lights in a single color under the tulle so it draws attention to the table decoration.
Other ways tulle is used as a decorative material includes wrapping it around your guests’ chairs. Just one quick swathe of the fabric tied at the back into a bow and the boring chair is transformed into a gauzy, airy contraption.
On the wedding tables, tulle can be used to wrap up your favors – using tulle minimizes the amount of wrapping that needs to be done and using a colored piece will brighten up the simplest of gifts. Not limited to just favors, it can also beautify the candle-holders on the tables, floral arrangement and if you are feeling very generous, even the eating utensils.
Overhead, tulle can be hung up on the walls or draped from wall to wall, creating an other-worldly effect. In this way, it helps to cover up blemishes on walls and uneven paint jobs. Shaping the material into appropriate shapes like diamonds or hearts, or words like “Love” or “Forever” is only a step further into your creativity. Such wall décor will make a beautiful backdrop for your wedding photos and interesting for your guests’ keepsakes. Not to mention the fact that once the everything is over, you can always take the decorative piece down and keep for as long as possible as a souvenir of your important day. Some decorators even use tulle to line the walls from entrance to hall as a lead for guests to find their way to the main event. This decreases the need for ushers.
Hanging the fabric down from the ceiling is another way of decorating with tulle. Otherwise, you can always drape the material from corner to corner and highlight the centre with a bow, floral arrangement or lights. Draping layers of multi-colored glitter tulle can also make for a dazzling decorative centerpiece.
Tulle is an interesting resource for decoration as it is flimsy enough to be deemed airy, soft enough to be pliable into different shapes and uses, yet firm enough to maintain its shape. And it can make for a memorable memento as well although only for as long as it can last. Just remember to keep it in a dark environment away from too much light. Otherwise, it will disintegrate.
Nonetheless, it is the perfect decorative tool at your wedding, and it looks beautiful in pictures.
