Weddings in Aurora, Ontario, Canada

When I googled Aurora, I was bombarded with so many webpages. No worries, I’ll just head over to another search engine. With a single click, more than a thousand webpages flooded my screen.

There is Aurora from the United States, Aurora – the goddess of dawn and even Aurora the planet. However, there was a single link with the words, “you’re in good company”. Anxious to see what it is, I clicked on the link and it brought me to a place called Aurora in the region of Ontario, Canada.

For a town of 48,000 residents, it has finally made it to the top of Canada’s list of largest municipalities in terms of population, securing the 97th position in 2006. This was a great deal as compared to the 113th position back in 2001.

The history of Aurora is quite simple. It was first settled in 1854 when a new railway was constructed. This proved to be a very idealistic settlement and the population gradually increases till it was incorporated into a town by 1888. Governed by a mayor, Phyllis Morris, and eight supporting councilors, this town that is located approximately 40km of Toronto is booming. Many of its residents commute in Toronto itself.

It is not unusual as the town is also part of the Greater Toronto Area. Aurora is similar to Hollywood in America, except that the notable residents are not known for their shows, but for their abilities to play sports. Among them is the famous Karl Stewart. Any hockey fan would know him as a famous NHL player who played for Tampa Bay Lighting. Apart from him, there are other reputable hockey players such as Mike Johnson and Tie Domi.

However, Aurora is not left without a star in the film industry. Are you familiar with the award winning show, 24? Remember Jack Baeur, the man who had only 24 hours to save himself, his daughter, his president and his country? Aurora was the hometown for Kiefer Sutherland, who played Jack Baeur. He even did his schooling days at St Andrew College Boarding School. Talking about schools, Aurora has two high schools which is Aurora High School and Dr. G.W.Williams secondary school.

Nevertheless, there are also some elementary schools that are run by the York Catholic District School Board and among them is the Cardinal Carter Catholic High School. St. Andrew’s college is a school that is solely for boys. Apart from hockey, the residents of Aurora are also involved with other sports. There is the Aurora Master Ducks which is a swimming club. Teenager fills up their time by joining Aurora Youth Soccer Club instead of loping around and wasting their time. Since hockey is a universal game, women are also encouraged to join. Aurora Senior A Womens Hockey is a team that is put together especially for the fairer sex in the town who are not afraid of playing rough.
